Ten Tips for Capturing Great Pictures

:pointr: Know Your Gear You need to know how your camera work. Read the instruction book if you have to, and play with it. Don't be afraid to try new things. Switch to manual exposure and start experimenting!

:pointr: ISO Keep it as low as possible to minimise noise.

:pointr: Shoot Raw Do it whenever possible, because more details and processing flexibility makes a real difference to the finished photograph.

:pointr: White Balance Setting the White Balance when needed is the key to great color photos.

:pointr: Exposure Mode Shoot using Aperture Priority if you want to control the depth of field - the area in front and behind the subject that retains sharp detail. Or Shutter Priority if you want to capture fast mouvements.

:pointr: Composition The Rule of Third is a good start to well balanced pictures, but don't hesitate to move around your subject and try new angle.

:pointr: Look Around Dont rush into taking picture! At the scene, give yoursell time to explore, seek for the good angle looking through the viewfinder. Be careful of what you want in your picture, nothing is more distracting than a cluttered background. ;o)

:pointr: Tripod Use a Tripod (or a Monopod) for stability and to obtain sharp images. But it can be fun to liberate yourself for a couple of extra shots without the three legs!^^

:pointr: Bracketing Shoot many pictures of the same scenery with different exposures. Exposure bracketing means that you take two more pictures: one slightly under-exposed ( -1/3EV), and the second one slightly over-exposed ( +1/3EV), again according to your camera's light meter.

:pointr: Grad Filter A gradual filter has one half darker than the other which blends seamlessly into itself leaving no visible signs of use. Placed over the lens, it will darken the sky just enough to "level" out the differences and match it to that of the land. A grey grad or neutral density filter will work great as they simply darken the area without affecting the colours.

And dont forget, most importantly :
HAVE FUN! :w00t:
