The subject of this photo does a great job of being a photographic subject. It tends to draw the curious eye and grab your attention, which is a great (and often necessary) technique for an artist.
At first I wanted to say that this picture "tells a story". The boat is somewhat of a fish-out-of-water, so to speak. The angle it tilts at, and it's similarity to a beached whale makes me think, "there must be an explanation behind it."
But then, after looking at this photo a bit longer, I realize that it is more of a Documentary picture. It starts feeling journalistic, in the sense that it is reporting what merely IS. The boat feels as if it now belongs there. It has become a piece of the landscape. It's as natural as the grass around it and has every right to stay there.
The composition of the photo is well done, although the sliver of leaves and trees on the far left is a bit distracting. The picture is bright, crisp and clear, and the colors vibrant, and, as I mentioned before, the image catches the eye.
